Hostgator - A Good Hosting Company?

Hostgator is one of the world's largest web hosting companies with over 150,000 customers, 5,000 servers, and hosting over 1,000,000 domains making up approximately 1% of all traffic on the Internet. The company is based out of Houston, Texas and was founded in 2002 from a dorm room at Florida Atlantic University.

But enough background about the company. You're probably here because you want to know if Hostgator is a goodhostgator company to go with for website hosting.

I've been a Hostgator customer since early 2005 and have to say I've been extremely satisfied with their hosting service. The servers are quite fast for the price, and the uptime is nothing short of amazing. To be honest, I can't think of the last time my servers at Hostgator have been down. Support tickets are answered very quickly (always less than an hour – usually just a few minutes) although I haven't had to submit one in quite some time as the server just works.

I am only willing to recommend two web hosting companies. One for shared and reseller hosting, and one for dedicated hosting. The company I always recommend for shared and reseller hosting is Hostgator. I've never had any major problems with them and when I've had a question, I've always been able to get a customer service rep on the phone almost immediately. (If you're curious, I recommend Liquidweb for dedicated hosting.)

They're also one of the most fairly priced hosting companies around.
